Do I need a visa to Spain for Russian citizens?
Yes, we do. To enter Spain, Russian citizens must apply for a Schengen visa. This applies to tourism, private travel, business, treatment and study. There are no exceptions for tourists.
There are two narrow exceptions. Diplomatic passports, their holders do not require a visa. The second is transit through the airport zone without access to Schengen. What types of visas are available to travel to Spain?
For a tour up to 90 days, a Schengen C visa is required. If the purpose is to work or study for more than three months, a national visa type D will be required. Everything depends on the date and purpose of the trip. Let’s look at the options.
Tourist Visa (Category C) – Classic. It gives the right to stay in Schengen for up to 90 days within six months. Suitable for vacations, guest visits, business meetings or short-term treatment. Issued relatively quickly, the package of documents is standard.
Work visa (type D) – for official employment. Without a contract, you cannot get it from a Spanish employer. The company proves that it has not found a local specialist for your position. The process is long, takes from 2 to 6 months. It gives a residence permit and the right to work legally.
Student visa (type D) – for training longer than 90 days: bachelor, master, annual courses. Enrollment in an accredited educational institution is required. Allows you to work up to 30 hours a week. Extended annually upon confirmation of study.
Study visa (Category C) – for short-term courses up to 90 days: language schools, summer programs, trainings. In fact, the same Schengen visa, but marked “education”. It doesn’t give you the right to work. It’s often faster than a student’s D.

What documents are needed to apply for a visa to Spain?
For a Schengen visa to Spain, you will need a passport, a questionnaire, a photo of 35×45 mm, medical insurance, reservation of housing and tickets, a certificate from work and a bank statement. Citizens of the Russian Federation additionally need copies of TIN and SNILS.
